An electrical engineer, having 28 years of experience in cement and allied process plants in India and overseas. He has worked with ACC from 1980-1991. During the year 1990-91, he has also worked with ACC Research and Consultancy Directorate (ACC RCD) to identify various energy saving methods without any investment. He has carried out detailed electrical energy audits in 36 major cement plants, 5 mini cement plants and 9 allied process plants, namely: textiles, Pharmaceuticals, sponge iron etc. B.G. Shankar has also done implementation of the saving proposals by Power Optimization in 14 cement plants and achieved about 5-7% overall power saving.
